The city of Kinshasa hosted, on August 24 to 25, 2022, a seminar with the aim of taking stock and evaluating the behavior of the Artisanal Gold Traceability Initiative (ITOA) since its launch. . It is in this context that the Deputy Minister of Mines, Godard Motemona received in audience the same Thursday evening, a sample of actors who took part in these meetings.

During these exchanges, the hosts made the restitution of the resolutions resulting from these days of reflection to the Vice-Minister.

Facing the press, the Provincial Minister of Mines of South Kivu, Akim Shirimwami, on behalf of the delegation, clarified the purpose of this meeting which consisted of the appropriation of the tenuous activity in Kinshasa.

“We have come to report on the two-day workshop we attended on the status of ITOA, a system we are using in our provinces that helps us to trace the gold ores exploited in our provinces. This has made it easier for us to limit the fraud observed in the exploitation of gold in our provinces. In the past, it was difficult for us to quantify the production of gold, but with this ITOA system, we know how to capture gold from extraction to marketing,” he said.

And to conclude:

“It is a system that we encourage, which is why we have also come to tell the national authority to support this system to enable us to have strong production by aligning ourselves with the vision of the Head of State. Félix Tshisekedi that of making Congolese millionaires. He reassured us that the Government is ready to support this ITOA system and support the partners who are intervening in our country”.

The Deputy Minister of Mines reassured his hosts of the appropriation of the resolutions of the workshop by the Government of the Republic and made the commitment to present them to the Council of Ministers for useful provisions.

It should be noted that the said delegation was made up of the representative of USAID, the technical partner of “Global Community”, representatives of the Presidency of the Republic, provincial ministers in charge of mines in South Kivu and Maniema.
