FQM ZAMBIA BOSS HITS OUT AT MINING JOB SCAMS

SOLWEZI, ZAMBIA – FQM Zambia’s new Country Manager Dr Godwin Beene has urged job seekers to follow the correct channels for employment applications and warned people not to be duped by fake messages purporting to be from senior company officials.

The mining giant is concerned with the number of people swindled out of their hard-earned money over a promise of employment, by criminals pretending to represent the company’s operations at Kansanshi Mine in Solwezi and FQM Trident Mine in Kalumbila.

“First Quantum employs thousands of people in Zambia and we have a well-structured procedure for advertising positions and recruiting the right people for employment. There is only one way to get a job at Kansanshi Mining, and that is to follow official channels and apply for the positions advertised on our website at www.firstquantumcareers.com.

“We will soon also begin publishing a list of available jobs in the local media to ensure that people are properly guided on the positions available for application through our website. There is no short-cut and FQM has zero-tolerance for corruption,” said Dr Beene.

He added that the company has put in place measures aimed at increasing public awareness and a toll-free anonymous hotline (0212 615844) for victims or witnesses to report suspicious activity in the mining firm’s recruitment process and that First Quantum is working with authorities including law enforcement to bring perpetrators to book with several perpetrators of this scheme currently facing prosecution.

The company continues to be an equal-opportunity employer, embraces Zambia’s diversity, and remains committed to giving every suitably qualified job seeker an equal opportunity to compete for any vacancy that may arise, and does not allow any individual to disadvantage other applicants by paying their way into a position.

First Quantum has also put in place measures that help to provide suitable employment opportunities to local community members through a local recruitment database of community members established with traditional leaders, and a local baseline census.
