4th edition of the Mining Conference scheduled for December 14-16, 2020 in Kisangani | DRC
The Minister of Mines, Willy KITOBO SAMSONI, chaired Friday the meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the DRC Mining Conference intended to validate the terms of reference, the work program and the provisional budget for this event. It was during this working session that the Minister of Mines announced the precise dates of the upcoming holding in Kisangani, in the province of Tshopo, of the 4th edition of the DRC Mining Conference, namely from 14 to December 16, 2020, reports the communication unit of this ministry.
Placed under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, these meetings are a framework for reflection and debate of ideas and exchange of information between representatives of the State, mining companies, civil society, all partners mining sector and even local communities impacted by mining activity.
Recall that the first three mining conferences held in Lubumbashi, Goma and Kolwezi focused more on issues of transparency and good governance, and the sustainable management of mineral resources.
This 4th edition will look at the major issues that arise in the artisanal mining sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The main theme chosen is “Responsible, ethical and sustainable artisanal mining in the DRC, in the light of the Mining Code and international standards: State of play, challenges and prospects”.
According to Willy Kitobo, the objectives sought by the organization of this conference are the strengthening of transparency and good governance in the artisanal mining sector, the sanitation of the artisanal mining sector and particularly that of strategic mineral substances that are needed. make more responsible. From this conference, the organizers hope to propose strategies and mechanisms to strengthen transparency and good governance in the artisanal mining sector, to clean up and improve this sector.
