Shamitumba announces legal action against Kalonji SARL for illegal exploitation of minerals in its concession

The Shamitumba company, in the town of Likasi (Haut-Katanga), takes issue with the allegations of mistreatment it allegedly inflicted on artisanal miners in its concession.

During a lively press conference in Lubumbashi, Shamitumba explains that it is not a question of artisanal miners but rather of a vast network of spoliators which constitutes a violation of article 300 of the Mining Code in force. in the DRC which disposes of the theft and concealment of mineral substances. As proof, the company claims to have seized in its concession trucks, shovels and bulldozers in the total number of 97 (ninety-seven), belonging not to the craftsmen as mentioned in the media.

“To date, people who come to our concession, and who operate illegally and in total disregard of mining legislation, cannot find any qualification other than that set out in Article 300 of the Congolese Mining Code in force, which provides on the theft and concealment of mineral substances,” said a press release from Shamitumba.

And to add:

“The industrial theft organized on a large scale, relying falsely on the name of various civil and military authorities without the latter being kept informed, has enabled us to dismantle a vast network of spoliators, and thereby, to proceed without procrastination in the seizure of trucks, shovels and bulldozers totaling 97 (ninety-seven), belonging not to artisanal operators as mentioned in the media, because according to all evidence, artisanal mining cannot require industrial equipment as the case may be, and this, in accordance with the instruction of the Minister of Mines relating to the presence of heavy equipment in the Artisanal Mining Zones”.

In addition, Shamitumba says he has evidence showing that a Chinese subject owner of the company Kalonji SARL would be involved in this spoliation of minerals.

“We have tangible proof that a subject of Chinese nationality Jimmy (Mr. Huang Jingming) and his company Kalonji SARL, as well as their local partners, Kiri Kiri APWAM organized this spoliation of the minerals”, she declares.

This company estimates that more than 100 truckloads of stolen minerals were transported out every day.

To assert its rights, the Shamitumba company announces that it has taken legal action and is also considering an eviction from its concession.

As part of its scientific management and operation, the Shamitumba mine would create more than 500 stable jobs for locals, and the life of the mine will be extended, which will constitute an important contribution to the socio-economic development of the region. from Likasi and even from the province of Haut-Katanga.
