Govt to issue statement on KCM & Mopani
Mines and Minerals Development Minister PAUL KABUSWE says Government will this week make a final statement on the status of both Konkola Copper Mines -KCM and Mopani Copper Mines.
Mr. KABUSWE says the two mining giants are very important in the economic transformation of Copperbelt towns.
The minister says that is why he wants to update the nation on how far the ministry has gone with negotiations for both KCM and Mopani.
Mr KABUSWE, who is also Chililabombwe Member of Parliament, says by the end of this year a lot will be seen in terms of economic activities in mining towns.
He was speaking during the hoisting of the flag at midnight to mark the 58th Zambia Independence Anniversary which is being held under the theme “Promoting Inclusiveness towards a Sustainable Social and Economic Recovery”.
And Mr. KABUSWE said it is time to fight for economic independence so that the country can get back to its former glory.
He said President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is determined to ensure that the country’s economy is worked on.
He further said there is need for the country to preserve the peace it has enjoyed over the years.
Meanwhile, the Freedom Fighters Association representatives in Chililabombwe praised the government for promoting peace and tranquility in the country.
One of the freedom fighters COLLINS MATAMBO said peace has prevailed after the 2021 August General elections.
At the same event, prayers were held to promote peace and unity across the country.
Meanwhile, scores of Chililabombwe residents turned up in numbers at the District Commissioner’s office to witness the hoisting of the flag.
A fireworks display was conducted by the Zambia Army at the event.
