Paluku Inaugurates MES Group’s 1M km/month Electric Cable Factory in DRC

Killing two birds with one stone, the Minister of Industry, who was in Lubumbashi as part of DRC Mining Week, also inaugurated, on Thursday June 15, 2023, a factory belonging to the Mining Engineering Services Group (MES).

This is the Congo Cables & Transformers factory, a first to produce electric cables in the city of Lubumbashi, capital of the province of Haut-Katanga.

It should be noted that this electric cable manufacturing plant received funding from the Industry Promotion Fund (FPI) to the tune of 4,227,649 USD, or 50% of the total cost of the project estimated at 8,449,557 USD.

The REIT has in fact financed the machinery and manufacturing equipment, the rolling and handling equipment as well as the working capital requirement.

In addition to the financing granted, the FPI will provide support for the project throughout the duration of the project.

For the Minister of Industry, Julien Paluku, this inauguration is an important step taken in the process of the industrialization of the Democratic Republic of Congo, as the Congolese Head of State wants.

“We have just inaugurated, as some time ago in Kinshasa, a new manufacturing plant for electrical cables from copper. It is the company Mining Engineering Service, MES, which succeeded in doing this feat with the support of financing from the Congolese Government via the Fund for the Promotion of Industry.

This company produces 4,100 types of cables with a production of one million km of electric cables per month. “said Julien Paluku.

Minister Julien Paluku laid the foundation stone for the Rainbow detergent manufacturing plant, which employs 80% women.

Mining Engineering Services (MES) was established in 2009 with an office in Lubumbashi to supply bulk chemicals for supporting Somika Sarl and VINMART group companies in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

At that time, MES was known as Mining Chemical Suppliers SARL (MCS).

The company’s success in sourcing high-quality chemicals and raw materials from leading manufacturers worldwide, at competitive prices and with prompt delivery, motivated them to expand their business into other mining industries.

Due to its customer-focused approach, the company has become a one-stop solution for all major mining industries.

In a short period of time, MES has become the preferred supplier of bulk chemicals. Its honest, fair, and responsible approach has made it the preferred business partner for its clients.

MES offers several services, including mining and mineral processing, mining and mineral manufacturing, sulfuric acid and oleochemical plant turnkey projects, as well as spare parts for all types of hydropower plants and machinery.
