TAZAMA Pipeline Set for Major Expansion to Boost Energy Transport
The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has identified the expansion of the TAZAMA pipeline as a critical priority. Reynolds Bowa, Chairperson of the ERB Board, has emphasized the urgency of this expansion and revealed that discussions have been initiated with the Tanzanian regulatory body to strategize the pipeline’s growth.
During a meeting with Mark Mwandosya, Chairperson of the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, Mr. Bowa expressed optimism about establishing a comprehensive plan, including budget allocation, timelines, and a project name by April of the following year.
These elements are essential to kick-start the expansion of the TAZAMA pipeline, which plays a crucial role in transporting petroleum products to Zambia.
Mr. Bowa also conveyed Zambia’s aspirations to develop a natural gas pipeline connecting Tanzania to Zambia, reinforcing the commitment to bolstering energy infrastructure in the region.
In response, Professor Mwandosya affirmed EWURA’s dedication to supporting the expansion of the TAZAMA pipeline with modern enhancements that will improve efficiency and security in transporting finished petroleum products to Zambia.
Furthermore, EWURA expressed a keen interest in learning from Zambia’s experience in managing hydroelectric power plants, indicating a mutual exchange of expertise in the energy sector. This collaborative effort aims to strengthen energy infrastructure and knowledge-sharing, ultimately benefiting both nations.
