Overall Job Purpose:
This role will be responsible for assisting in establishing of preventative and responsive Mechanical maintenance and development within the process area and across the Process Plant [specifically “dry ore” crushing], to ensure maximum operational performance is achieved in a safe and cost effective manner while ensuring compliance with relevant procedures, polices, legal requirements and consent conditions.
Specific Job Responsibility:
- To keep all mechanical documents (including drawings) updated and comply with the Zambian statutory regulations.
- To give guidance and Engineering support to the various Mechanical departments to improve equipment availability.
- You will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
- Installation of new Mechanical systems, replacement of old, faulty or redundant Mechanical systems as per the Company and vendor’s safety and quality specifications.
- Ensure that all condition monitoring results are analysed and implemented in the execution of said tasks
- Ensure that all Mechanical equipment have the correct hardware interlock and safety parameter settings for effective and safe operation.
- Adhere to the companies planned and preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
- Report all incidents immediately to the Superintendent.
- Ensure that all Safety logbooks are checked and signed according to the procedure.
- Ensure that stock levels of Mechanical spares and necessary sub-assemblies are readily available and maintained in the warehouse and report all defective or substandard equipment to your Superintendent.
- Maintain the correct and safe usage of all hand tools within your section
- Report all defective tools; inspect, record and control all replacement of tools.
- Identify needs for specialised training requirements within your area.
- Any other duties as directed by your supervisor.

Experience required to perform in this job:
- Minimum three years’ experience in a Mining environment working as a Mechanical Engineer (preferably on dry ore / crushing plants).
- Knowledge of SAG and Ball milling circuits would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of Flotation circuit including flotation cells would be beneficial.
- In detail knowledge of the mining regulations is essential.
- Knowledge of condition monitoring strategies.
- Knowledge of Thickening and concentrate filtration.
- Knowledge of piping and pumping systems.
- Knowledge of filtration systems.
- Knowledge of Hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Maintenance and statutory testing of overhead cranes.
- Knowledge of gearless, gear boxes and pulley systems.
- Good knowledge on the use of Mechanical measuring instruments.
- Reading Mechanical drawings.
- Computer literate.
- Must be able to groom up new Mechanical personnel to high standard.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent.
- Experience in mine site maintenance and project management.
- Valid Zambian drivers License
- Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
- Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (ERB).
