Notables of Kailo Condemn Illegal Mining by Chinese Company
The notables of Kailo territory in the Maniema province of the Democratic Republic of Congo have strongly condemned the illegal and illicit mining activities carried out by the Chinese company Étoile d’Orient.
According to a report from the Congolese Press Agency (ACP), the notables expressed deep concern over the fraudulent practices of the company, which seeks to obtain permits in violation of the standards outlined in the DRC’s mining laws and regulations.
Benjamin Kawanga, representing the notables of Kailo territory, emphasized that this illegal mining has persisted for years, causing significant environmental degradation and depriving the local population of their natural resources.
“We denounce the ongoing illegal and illicit mining in our Kailo territory by the Chinese company Étoile d’Orient. We are alarmed by the company’s attempts to fraudulently obtain permits without adhering to the standards mandated by the DRC’s mining laws and regulations,” criticized Benjamin Kawanga.
Furthermore, the notables of Kailo have called upon the relevant authorities to swiftly intervene and halt these illegal activities, urging them to protect the interests of the local population.
They have also emphasized the importance of strict enforcement of laws governing the mining sector in the DRC.
