Macron and Tshisekedi Discuss Bilateral Cooperation and Security
Following their meeting at the Élysée Palace, Presidents Emmanuel Macron and Félix Tshisekedi held a joint press briefing, focusing on bilateral cooperation and security concerns in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
President Macron affirmed France’s unwavering commitment to the DRC’s integrity, condemning aggression and urging Rwanda to halt support for the M23 rebel group.
He emphasized France’s support for strengthening the DRC’s sovereignty and echoed the need for de-escalation, backing the Luanda Process.
President Tshisekedi expressed optimism, highlighting France’s crucial role in seeking peace. He appreciated France’s increased dedication to the Congolese people amidst Rwanda’s aggression.
Tshisekedi emphasized the pivotal role of peace in fostering development and welcomed French investment opportunities in the DRC.
President Macron echoed the sentiment, noting the deepening cooperation and investment between France and the DRC. He outlined various areas of collaboration, spanning security, economy, environment, infrastructure, sports, education, and youth empowerment.
