Zesco Introduces New 7-Hour Daily Power Rationing Schedule in Zambia
Zesco has announced a new power rationing schedule in Zambia, aiming to ensure a consistent 7-hour daily power supply for its customers.
The update, shared by Zesco’s Corporate Affairs Department, seeks to improve service reliability by strategically optimizing power imports and maximizing contributions from Independent Power Producers.
In its statement, Zesco clarified that while the utility is committed to upholding this schedule, it relies on the availability of imported power and may face unexpected challenges.
Should disruptions occur, Zesco will issue real-time updates through SMS, its Facebook page, and other communication platforms to keep customers informed.
Customers experiencing power outages exceeding 24 hours are encouraged to report these issues immediately, as they may indicate technical problems requiring prompt resolution.
The new rationing plan comes just days after Zesco implemented an emergency tariff adjustment on November 1, which has enabled the company to increase electricity imports from South Africa’s Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd., Mozambique’s EDM, and the Southern African Power Pool. These measures are expected to alleviate some of the energy shortages faced by consumers.
Expressing gratitude for the public’s patience, Zesco reaffirmed its commitment to delivering the best service possible amidst ongoing challenges.
