CNPAV calls on DRC President to investigate the numerous contracts awarded to Dan Gertler following US decision

The synergy of the NGOs “Congo is not for sale” (CNPAV) welcomes the decision of the Biden administration to revoke the license against the Israeli businessman, Dan Gertler, and to fully reimpose the sanctions against him and its companies for corruption.

“We welcome the US government’s decision to revoke the license against businessman Dan Gertler to fully reimpose sanctions against him and his companies for corruption. This decision by the Biden administration brings renewed energy to our anti-corruption efforts in the Congo. All those who have courageously raised their voices to denounce corruption in the DRC have new hope today that their efforts are not in vain, ”the CNPAV statement said.

The NGOs gathered within this platform find that Gertler’s opaque agreements have been deeply damaging to the Congolese people and to the country’s efforts to establish good governance.

As a result, the CNPAV is waiting to see the Gertler machine be nailed down by the courts.

“We hope that the ongoing corruption investigations in several jurisdictions around the world will further shed light on the role of Gertler and his international business partners in draining the Congo of the income it desperately needs,” the statement said. CNPAV.

The CNPAV finds that the decision of the US government should be a wake-up call for President Tshisekedi to also launch a Congolese investigation into the numerous contracts awarded to Gertler. A closer look at the dozens of deals he has been involved in is urgently needed to ensure that Congo’s minerals benefit the Congolese people and not just a few elites.
