Sweden-based equipment manufacturer Epiroc has started a new European Union-funded collaboration project with several mining companies, equipment and system manufacturers and universities. The three-year project, called Next Generation Carbon Neutral Pilots for Smart Intelligent Mining Systems (NEXGEN SIMS), aims to support new technologies, methods and processes that will enable a more sustainable and efficient carbon-neutral mining operation. Mining and construction equipment and services company Sandvik Group will acquire African original-equipment manufacturer (OEM) of custom-engineered vibrating equipment Kwatani. The transaction is expected to be finalised in the fourth quarter of this year, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary conditions. Kwatani’s production facility, in Johannesburg, is set to become a global engineering and manufacturing base for vibrating screens and feeders for both local and international customers, says Kwatani CEO Kim Schoepflin. A 19 km overland conveyor system, designed and installed by the TAKRAF India office, for the greenfield Utkal Alumina Project includes the longest single flight conveyor system to be installed within Indian territory to date. Utkal Alumina is a 100% subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group company Hindalco.
