Sandvik introduces larger, upgraded loader

Sweden-based mine equipment provider Sandvik has introduced the seven-tonne Toro LH307 loader, which it says offers improved productivity and capacity for underground miners.  The company said the Toro LH307 features many design updates and new options for both hardware and software. It can carry more than the previous Sandvik LH307, which had a capacity of six tonnes. The vehicle also has an integrated weighing system (IWS) and traction control, which measures the payload when lifting the boom and the number of buckets lifted during a shift; the traction control system… Read More Here

Sandvik outlines its emission-free mining journey at The Electric Mine 2022

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions President, Henrik Ager, got The Electric Mine 2022 Conference in Stockholm, Sweden, off to a bang earlier this month, with a major product reveal that will set a new benchmark in the battery-electric underground mining space. After reflecting on a journey that saw him escape a broken lift on his way to the Radisson Waterfront that morning, Ager announced the company would soon release the largest-capacity battery-electric truck for underground mining to the market, the TH665B. With a 65-t-payload capacity, this machine will be measured against the… Read More Here

Hexagon’s Mining division partners with Phoenix Drill Control on autonomous drill tech

Hexagon’s Mining division has signed an exclusive partnership agreement with Phoenix Drill Control, a technology company specialised in implementing autonomous technology to the open-pit, blasthole drilling process. Applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine control to drill automation, Phoenix Drill Control’s autonomous drill technology overcomes the constraints typically associated with traditional drill automation platforms, such as removal or replacement of existing machine controls, extensive operator training and reliance on operator input, according to Hexagon’s Mining division. AI algorithms monitor all input signals and take dynamic corrective action, without operator input and… Read More Here

BHP first-half profits beats estimates and triggers talk of M&A

BHP Group announced a record dividend payout after reporting an estimate-beating first-half profits on Tuesday, helped by higher commodity prices, despite a cutback in demand from top metals consumer China. The miner has had a busy six months marked by sweeping changes, including selling its $13-billion petroleum business and a listing unification, while managing pandemic-related disruptions to its business. Iron ore prices, however, have halved from last year’s record levels as China’s push to curb emissions and easing construction activity in the country’s debt-laden property sector curtailed demand. Commodity price volatility will… Read More Here

BHP reports lower volumes at Olympic Dam due to a planned smelter maintenance campaign

BHP has reported lower volumes at Olympic Dam due to a planned smelter maintenance campaign, completed in January 2022. This was partially offset by higher volumes at Antamina. Escondida copper production decreased by 15% to 488 000 t due to concentrator feed grade decline, despite a record performance for material mined. Metallurgical coal production for the December quarter was stagnant compared with the previous quarter, reaching 8.8-million tonnes, but down 8% in the half-year, to 17.6-million tonnes. BHP reported that Queensland coal production decreased due to significant wet weather, with… Read More Here
