Orica releases new blast modelling software to improve ore recovery

Melbourne-based Orica has released its updated OREPro blast modelling software to improve ore recovery. The OREPro 3D uses mine data – including post-blast muckpile surveys, in-situ block models, and blast designs – to model blast movements and assist miners in improving their mining efficiency. This version allows mining companies to work with 3D models to optimise ore control. The software calculates SmartVectors, which improves grade control models. It promises to improve blast outcomes, by enabling miners to understand where rock mass has been repositioned following blasts. This will cut down… Read More Here

Technology is making the mining industry safer

The mining industry has seen significant innovation in recent years, and technology is set to make an impact in one area in particular: safety. One of the primary concerns at mining sites is the safety of workers and equipment on the job. Poor air quality, low visibility, chemical hazards, and structural dangers can all pose a threat in risky areas. The mining industry has already come a long way in developing technology and practices that improve safety conditions. New advancements are always being made, though, and the top four on… Read More Here

Caterpillar gears up for green energy transition, automation age

Minexpo 2021 in Las Vegas was five years in the making, and like other industry gatherings taking place at the beginning of the end of a pandemic, it was a rather subdued affair.  Even more so considering that mining is on the cusp of a new era – not just in terms of booming demand for metals, but also the transformation happening at the coalface. Or rather, under the copper block cave, on the spodumene bench and in the nickel stope. No gathering of this size is complete without buzzwords,… Read More Here

Epiroc sees order intake jump by 31% in Q3

Epiroc, an equipment supplier for the mining industry, saw its order intake increase by 31% year-on-year (YoY) in Q3 2021 as it made approximately 12.24 billion SEK ($1.42 billion) despite what it called “global supply chain challenges”. The company’s operating profit increased by 29% to 2.35 billion SEK ($273.3 million). It attributed this, and the order intake increase, to “several large orders” and growing customer demand for equipment. Additionally, it said many of its orders in Q3 were for its “most advanced technologies” involving both automation and digitalisation designed to… Read More Here

Sandvik’s LH115I loader ROPS / FOPS certified by ISO

Achieving ISO certification for the roll over protection structure (ROPS) and falling object structure (FOPS) of the Sandvik LH115I low profile loader is another feather in the cap of Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions’ South African operation. The ROPS and FOPS for the South African-built Sandvik LH115I low profile loader has always been engineered in accordance with ISO standards, says Deon Lambert, business line manager at Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions. “The only difference was that local customers initially requested a total height of 1,6 metres for the unit, which… Read More Here

Sandvik orders beat forecast, confirms SMT listing

Sweden’s Sandvik reported a third-quarter order intake that exceeded market expectations on Monday and said it was planning to list its specialty steel business on Nasdaq Stockholm next year. The metal-cutting tools and mining gear maker was helped by strong demand in the mining and infrastructure segments, while supply chain bottlenecks and component shortages remained a challenge. Demand from the automotive industry in China slowed somewhat in the quarter, as the global semiconductor shortage kept pressuring the sector. “We think it will gradually improve but I don’t think we will see a material improvement… Read More Here
