Tech-driven training creates safer mines

The most important thing to come out of a mine is the miner.” These immortal words are believed to have come from 19th century French sociologist and mining inspector general, Frédéric Le Play, and they are as truthful today as they ever were.  The challenges for any mining operation are countless and research shows that the vast majority of incidents can be linked back to human error. As such, the need for in-depth, hands-on and continuous health and safety learning for all levels of mining work grows more urgent by… Read More Here

BME develops products enabling safer blasting in reactive ground

Sulfide-bearing ground presents numerous risks to users of ammonium nitrate (AN) based explosives. As a result, BME, part of the JSE-listed Omnia Group, has developed both the products and systems to manage safer blasting under these conditions. “We have evolved our emulsion explosives and our testing methodology to deal with the risks posed by reactive ground,” said Dr Rakhi Pathak, BME’s Senior Product Manager. “This has allowed us to routinely conduct blasting safely under these conditions at various customer sites.” Dr Pathak noted that the exothermic reaction between AN and… Read More Here

TAGE Idriver to develop autonomous haulage system where truck fleets will regulate speed based on mine, vehicle & market conditions 6 Equipment & Technology Mining technology

TAGE Idriver to develop autonomous haulage system where truck fleets will regulate speed based on mine, vehicle & market conditions

Chinese autonomous haulage technology major TAGE Idriver says the most common question it is asked in mining  is how fast the autonomous trucks can run. “Why do so many people pay attention to the speed of driverless mining trucks? Mining trucks running faster transport more ore, which can naturally bring more income to mining enterprises. But due to the uneven road surface of the mine, plus the ramps and curves, the higher the speed of the mining truck, the higher the fuel consumption, and the more potential damage to the… Read More Here
