Ivanhoe Mines has been granted three new highly prospective exploration rights covering total surface area of 80 square kilometres adjacent to the company’s Platreef project in Limpopo province, South Africa. Platreef is a palladium, rhodium, nickel, platinum, copper and gold development project that is 64% owned by Ivanhoe. A 26% interest is held by Ivanhoe’s broad-based, black economic empowerment (B-BBEE) partners, which include 20 local host communities with approximately 150,000 people, project employees and local entrepreneurs. MMG Limited released an update on 13 October that since 16 September 2022, its Nambulwa mining lease, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has been occupied by armed forces who claimed that the government-owned mining company Gécamines has signed a research contract for the area with a third party even though MMG has a registered interest over the lease. London-listed Galileo Resources has commenced a 3 000 m core drilling programme on their Luansobe copper project, in Zambia. The programme has been designed to infill gaps in historic drilling and twin selected holes, with a particular focus on shallow up-dip projections of the deposit. The company has relogged historical drill core data dating from the 1950s and 1960s, with core from five holes being split for assaying of possible copper-bearing zones not previously recognised or considered of interest by earlier operators.
