Kamoa Copper’s 3.8 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) mill is 93% complete as of January 31, 2022. Concentrator hot commissioning to begin in April 2022, ending previous forecast of Q2 2022 and several months before the initial schedule. Hot commissioning involves introducing the first ore into the plant at a reduced feed rate to set equipment parameters and test performance. The feed rate is then regularly increased. In August 2021, Kamoa-Kakula’s energy company signed an extension of the existing financing agreement with the DRC’s state-owned power company SNEL to upgrade turbine 5 at the Inga II hydropower complex. Since June 2021, rehabilitation scoping works and technical visits have been conducted by Stucky Ltd. of Renens, Switzerland, and Voith Hydro of Heidenheim, Germany, a leading engineering group.
