For a fortnight now Africa’s red metal hotspot Zambia is making positive headline following the August 12 poll outcome that saw a third successful peaceful transition since 1991. Pan African Resources to acquire Gauteng-based tailings retreatment projects

Mid-tier gold producer Pan African Resources has entered into an agreement to acquire historic gold tailings assets owned by Mintails Mining, which was placed in provisional liquidation in 2018. The provisional liquidation of Mintails SA has resulted in an opportunity for Pan African to acquire gold tailings mineral resources not previously retreated. Under the terms of the conditionalsale-of-shares agreements, Pan African intends to acquire the total share capital… Read More Here

Tom Goodhead, a partner at law firm PGMBM, which is representing the claimants, called the judgment “fundamentally flawed” and pledged… Read More Here

The spillage happened at Rongxing Investment Limited, a copper processing company located on the Kitwe-Mufulira road. The Luela stream feeds into the Mwambashi stream, which is one of the tributaries of the Kafue River. As a result of the… Read More Here

How technology can help miners comply with new global tailings standard guidelines

Technology is key in helping miners comply with the recently released Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management, a set of guidelines aimed at strengthening current practices with the goal of zero harm to people and the environment. Prepared by the United Nations Environment Program, Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) and the International Council on Metals and Mining (ICMM), the standard was a direct response to a series of lethal accidents that took place in recent years, with the failure of the tailings dam at Vale’s Córrego do Feijão mine being the latest of such incidents.  According to… Read More Here
