Chinese Ambassador Highlights Progress and Future Projects During Mbuji Mayi Visit

On Sunday, August 24, Zaho Bin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), conducted a field visit to Mbuji Mayi in Eastern Kasai.

During his visit, he inspected the Polygone de la Minière de Bakwanga (MIBA) and the Mbuji Mayi airport, where a Chinese company is working on a new runway.

Following his tour, Ambassador Zaho Bin expressed satisfaction with the ongoing construction at Mbuji Mayi airport. “I am impressed by the quality of the work carried out by the Chinese company.

The project is expected to be completed by February, providing Mbuji Mayi with a modern airport of international standard,” he stated.

In his evaluation of the Sino-Congolese Forum on Mines, Economy, and Cooperation, which he attended, Ambassador Zaho highlighted three key observations:

1.Strong Participation: The forum saw significant engagement from both Congolese and Chinese communities. The Ambassador attended with around sixty entrepreneurs from 25 Chinese companies.

2.In-depth Discussions: The forum facilitated comprehensive discussions on a range of topics, enhancing mutual understanding between the two parties.

3.Fruitful Results: Notable outcomes include plans for road construction and a commitment by a Chinese company to establish a cultural training center in Mbuji Mayi for local youth.

Additionally, Ambassador Zaho mentioned prospective projects under the DRC-China cooperation framework, including the construction of a cement plant in Katanda, Eastern Kasai.

He praised the strong bilateral cooperation, noting substantial progress since President Félix Tshisekedi’s visit to China in June of the previous year.

The Sino-Congolese Forum on Mines, Economy, and Cooperation, which took place in Mbuji Mayi from August 24 to 25, 2024, was chaired by the Minister of Mines.
