Although originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mapi Mobwano lived much of his life in South Africa and obtained South African nationality there. It was in this country that he obtained his two master’s degrees, the first at the University of the Witwatersrand (Master of Engineering, Mineral Resource Management) and the second at the University of Cape Town (MBA). He holds a B.Sc. in mining engineering.
Mr. Mobwano then worked for more than 20 years in the mining industry in South Africa. Prior to joining ArcelorMittal, he was COO of Anglo American’s Sishen Mine, Africa’s largest mine with an annual output of around 30 million tonnes of finished product and over 240 million tonnes. in total volume.
In this role, he was responsible for a transformation aimed at improving the productivity and competitive position of the mine. He started his career in 1998 with Exxaro Resources and from 2010 to 2017 served as General Manager of Operations at the Goedgevonden Complex in Glencore / Xstrata.
Subsidiaries of ArcelorMittal, the number one steel producer in the world and among the five largest producers of iron ore products internationally, ArcelorMittal Infrastructure Canada senc (“AMIC”) and ArcelorMittal Mining Canada senc (” AMEM ”) are two complementary entities working on the North Shore of Quebec.
