DRC: barely 76 kg of gold from artisanal mining traced throughout 2020
During the year 2020, out of a total production of around 29,596.65 kg, only 76.13 kg of gold from artisanal mining were traced by the services of the Ministry of Mines, representing 0 , 25% of the total production of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The production of gold from artisanal mining has experienced a continuous decline over the past five years in the DRC, dropping from 442.16 kg in 2016 to a volume of 76 kg in 2020, i.e. a drop of 82% in five years.
It should be noted that the bulk of gold production in the DRC is provided by Kibali Gold which alone produced 29,472.45 kg of gold.
The artisanal gold mining sector is experiencing massive fraud estimated, according to observers, at more than 95% of actual production.
