DRC: CONECOMA and Provincial Governments sign an agreement on the free movement and marketing of minerals

The Confederation of traders, cooperatives and artisanal mining transporters “CONECOMA” and the representatives of the provincial governments proceeded, on Saturday, November 13, 2021, in Goma, to the signing of an agreement on the free movement and marketing of minerals.

This agreement was signed by three provinces namely Maniema, South Kivu and North Kivu. It was at the end of an exchange workshop between the different actors.

This is an agreement that aims to combat mining fraud.

According to the Principal Advisor to the Military Governor of North Kivu in charge of mines, David Kamuha, this protocol will also strengthen the traceability of minerals.

“The fact that these three provinces sign this protocol will certainly promote the middle class through competition since a sort of monopoly has been established, especially in our sister province of Maniema where the processing entities impose their laws and their price. But we believe that by applying this memorandum of understanding, we will effectively help raise the middle class, not only for the provinces of North and South Kivu and Maniema, ” said David Kamuha.

“The participants also debated the issues of setting up modalities for the transfer of minerals between the 3 provinces of the former Kivu as well as the mechanisms for their exploitation. This will allow development since there is a ripple effect when minerals circulate freely over all of these three provinces, it is also the other sectors that will develop, in particular the fluidity of manufactured products towards others. provinces, but also the very fluidity of this money supply between the 3 provinces,  ”he concluded.
