DRC: Deputy Minister of Mines launches workshop for the Tax reform project in artisanal gold sector
The Deputy Minister of Mines, Godard Motemona launched this Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at the Grand Hotel in Kinshasa, the workshop on the project of tax reform in the artisanal gold sector in the DRC, organized by the NGO Impact with the support of German Cooperation.
The objective of this work is to promote a fruitful exchange on the activities carried out in the field in relation to the traceability of gold in Ituri called “Fair Gold” and to explain the content of the project “Tax reform in the gold sector. artisanal in the DRC “.
In his speech, the Deputy Minister of Mines, Godard Motemona welcomed the organization of this workshop which, according to him, falls within the straight line of the vision of the Head of State, that of making Congolese, the first beneficiary of the country’s minerals, a vision implemented by the Sama Lukonde government through the Ministry of Mines. He also expressed the government’s willingness to support all initiatives that contribute to improving the governance of the artisanal mining sector and thus fight against mining fraud.
“I welcome the organization of this workshop dedicated to the launch of the Tax reform project in the artisanal gold sector in the DRC. I pay a heartfelt tribute to the President of the Republic, Félix-Antoinne Tshisekedi who spares no effort to promote the well-being of the Congolese people by making them the first beneficiary of the natural resources abounding in the soil and subsoil of our country. I also thank the Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde for his determination to realize the vision of the Head of State in the mining sector My thanks also go to the representatives of Impact who, with the support of technical and financial partners, took the initiative to invite the authority of the Ministry of Mines that I represents to theoccasion of the launching ceremony of the Tax reform project in the artisanal gold sector in the DRC. This gives me the opportunity to express the will of the government through the Ministry of Mines, to support all the initiatives which try to contribute to the improvement of the governance of the artisanal mining sector “, declared Godard Motemona.

In addition, the Head of Cooperation of the German Embassy in the DRC, Friederike Fuhkrott, for her part, praised the efforts of the Congolese government and the NGO Impact to engage in the fight against the informal trade of the ‘gold.

Among these raw materials, gold is particularly remarkable because of its characteristics and its high value. an important role in income generation, local economies and regional trade. At the same time, large quantities of artisanal gold leave the country outside official channels and without contributing to the development of the producing region. An incentive factor for informal trade and gold smuggling, a reform of the financial and regulatory framework of operations is necessary. Recall that the workshop on the Tax reform project in the artisanal gold sector brings together all the stakeholders in the artisanal mining chain and gold marketing. This workshop will take place over 2 days, from August 17 to 18, 2021.
