DRC: government launches the work of the multisectoral workshop for the development of the National Directory of Natural Resources”

Launch this Tuesday, January 18, 2022 by Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge of the Multisectoral Workshop for the development of the National Directory of Renewable and Non-Renewable Natural Resources of the Soil and Subsoil of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Organized by the Ministry of Territorial Development, it will be a question of establishing for each natural resource, its location, its commercial potential, its quality and content, the existing value chains, the actors involved in the exploitation, the use and marketing, inventory of resource reserves.

In his word, the Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Planning Guy Loando, indicated that the main objective of this workshop is to develop a “National Directory of Renewable and Non-renewable Natural Resources of the soil and sub- ground” in a spatial distribution respecting the new administrative configuration of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“The work that you are going to launch today constitutes the first phase of an ambitious project which is part of the continuity of the government action that is the development project of the 145 territories, this directory is a modest contribution so that each Congolese or whatever he is, knows the resources that are in his territory. the Prime Minister, recalls that the DRC is engaged in a reform which will provide the latter with spatial coordination tools for socio-economic and environmental development, guaranteeing national and regional balances,the safeguarding of basic resources and the optimal use of financial means” declared Guy Loando Mboyo.

For his part, Prime Minister Sama Lukonde welcomed the holding of this workshop. He advocated good governance of the DRC’s natural resources for the well-being of the Congolese. He deplored the lack of certification of natural resources, the lack of a consensual vision of national spatial planning taking into account strategic natural resources.  

“The objective being to make effective the promotion of competitiveness, the attractiveness and the influence of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the sustainable development of natural resources and ecosystems, the determination of major and strategic spaces for the development of the territory , long-term good governance of Congolese strategic interests,” declared the Prime Minister, delivering his speech for the occasion to the audience, including deputies and senators as well as technical partners and experts.

Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge wanted this directory to be updated periodically, “so as to take into account the changes that have occurred and the results of territorial impact studies in order to provide users with up-to-date data” on the state of the national territory.

“I urge all the experts gathered there to actively participate in the work of developing this tool, to show a high sense of the State and patriotism to produce as soon as possible a document which will be validated in its second phase during the National Workshop for the validation of the National Directory of Natural Soil and Subsoil Resources of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a workshop which will see the participation of all the living forces of the Nation so that the citizen Congolese can truly know such wealth as abounds in his homeland, the Democratic Republic of Congo through all its provinces, each of which has extraordinary potential so that theCongolese State organizes its development and offers programs for the enhancement of these formidable assets in natural resources to really implement development throughout the physical space of our Country” he added.

The specific objectives of these meetings are to: -Organize a collection of data necessary for the development of the National Directory of Natural Resources in a participatory approach; inclusive, dynamic and interactive involving all stakeholders concerned with the management and use of natural resources, with the involvement of technical structures representing several sectoral Ministries and the provinces; -Develop the National Directory of Natural Resources, -Set up a multisectoral committee for the annual evaluation of the development of natural resources. – Propose strategies for the exploitation and enhancement of natural resources; – Validate and distribute theNational directory of renewable and non-renewable natural resources of the soil and subsoil.
