DRC: Japanese will rehabilitate group 4 of Inga 2

The Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, received the delegation of a Japanese association ready to support the DRC in the rehabilitation of group 4 of Inga 2.

This delegation was led to the Prime Minister by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in the DRC, Mr. Hiroyuki Minami, who said he was very happy to continue cooperation and to walk together with the DRC.

At the end of the hearing, the head of this delegation, also former Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, and currently president of AFRECO, a Japanese association for the economy and development of Africa, Mr. Tetsuro Yano, expressed all his joy for the welcome that Prime Minister Sama Lukonde extended to his delegation.

“It was the first time. I was honored to have had this audience with Prime Minister Sama Lukonde since the new Government took office in the DRC. Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde has already visited Japan with the President of the Republic, in 2019, while he was still Managing Director of Gécamines. I understood that he is a fine connoisseur of Japan. He knows the culture of Japan very well. And now that he is the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, I am happy to meet him, “he said.

Tetsuro Yano hailed a very strong historical link that already exists since 1983-84 between the DRC and his country, Japan.

“From the bottom of my heart, a link that exists between our two countries, a very strong link between Japan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. I would like to recall a little the history between Japan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, especially in the field of economic cooperation, but also our link with the imperial family of Japan, at the time, between 1983 and 1984. At the time, he was the Crown Prince of Japan and today, Emperor Emeritus, who has visited the DRC, ”Tetsuro Yano recalled.

He expressed his country’s desire and determination to continue bilateral cooperation with the DRC, in particular by relaunching the project for the state visit of President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo to Japan, which was recently aborted because of the Covid pandemic. 19.

“We talked about how we can compose our bilateral relationship. Especially since last year, we had scheduled the state visit of the President, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, Head of State in Japan. But unfortunately, because of the Covid-19, it has been canceled. So, how can we first achieve this great project to strengthen our bilateral relationship. And concerning bilateral relations and especially the confidence that we have, the Japanese Government had already announced our intention to rehabilitate group 4 of Inga 2, “said the Japanese statesman.

Finally, Mr. Tetsuro praised the economic and financial efforts made by the Congolese Government, in particular to maintain its good relations with the institutions of Breton Woods. He is convinced that with this, the DRC will have good results and that this will be used to move the country forward.

“As the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues economic and financial efforts, through the agreements concluded with the IMF, I am convinced that you will have a good result with the IMF. And this will serve to advance the G24 project and also to carry out the State visit of the Head of State to Japan. It is the extraordinary ambassador and plenipotentiary of Japan in the DRC, Mr. Hiroyuki Minami, who will take all the responsibility of carrying out all that I have said “, he clarified.
