DRC mining operators commit to pooling their efforts for the development of the mining sector

Miners in the Democratic Republic of Congo agree on the need to join forces in order to provide innovative solutions to enable the development of the sector. They made this commitment at the end of intense two-day work organized as part of the second meeting of the national consultation framework for miners in the DRC.

This workshop was organized by the Presidential Strategic Watch Council (CPVS) with the support of the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA). The meetings saw the participation of experts, mining companies, associations, administration, technical services and others, with the aim of finding, each as far as they are concerned, appropriate solutions to the almost inextricable problems which slow down the development of the mining sector.

In his remarks, the CPVS coordinator, François Muamba Tshishimbi welcomed the enthusiasm of the stakeholders to take part in this second meeting of the national consultation framework of the main stakeholders in the mining sector in the DRC. At the same time, he praised the contribution of OSISA, one of the government’s main partners.

“The CPVS obtained this contribution within the framework of an agreement concluded with OSISA, for the implementation of the project entitled Presidential Initiative for Transparency and Governance of the Extractive Sector, the coordination of which is entrusted to it for reasons of expertise,” declared François Muamba.

The CPVS coordinator noted that it is obvious to date that the challenges plaguing the DRC’s mining sector are enormous. And to face it, the first strategy consists of uniting efforts so that everyone, according to their area of expertise, brings the best of themselves to develop the sector.

The second meeting of the national consultation framework of stakeholders in the mining sector in the DRC constitutes a good opportunity for stakeholders in the sector to carry out a serious autopsy.

As a reminder, the Presidential Strategic Monitoring Council (CPVS) is a specialized service of the Presidency of the Republic established by Order No. 20/013 ter of March 19, 2020. It is a technical structure whose mission is to monitor and to evaluate the implementation of the commitments of the President of the Republic included in the common program of the Government in order to facilitate the making of strategic decisions for the Nation through an analysis of trend developments and their environment.
