DRC Prime Minister and MYHYDRO Discuss Hydro Dam Project for Kabeya-Kamwanga

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka met with Mr. Paul Hinks, Managing Director of MYHYDRO, and his delegation at the Prime Minister’s Office. ,

A key topic of discussion was the installation of hydroelectric micro-dams, with a focus on a proposed project on the Luby River in Kabeya-Kamwanga, located 45 km west of Mbujimayi on national road RN 1.

The Kabeya-Kamwanga micro-dam project is a flagship initiative for MYHYDRO in the DRC. “Kabeya-Kamwanga has been selected as the first site for our hydroelectric micro-dam technology.

We have discussed the necessary steps with the Prime Minister to advance this project,” said Paul Hinks. He emphasized the project’s significance for the region.

This micro-dam initiative is part of a broader plan to install micro-dams at 33 sites across the country, aimed at providing clean, sustainable energy and boosting regional economic development.

Paul Hinks also praised the new energy legislation in the DRC, which fosters private investment in the electricity sector. “This legislation creates opportunities for projects like Kabeya-Kamwanga, which is crucial for improving electricity access in the country,” he noted.

Aligned with the Government Action Program (PAG 2024-2028), the Kabeya-Kamwanga project aims to enhance resource management through smart technologies, addressing climate challenges and promoting sustainable development.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Hydrocarbons Aimé Sakombi Molendo and Minister of Water Resources and Electricity Teddy Lwamba, who voiced their support for the project.

Their participation underscores the government’s commitment to advancing innovative energy projects that could reshape the DRC’s energy sector and foster sustainable development.
