DRC: SAEMAPE sensitizes mining operators on the process of granting technical advice
The Deputy Director General in charge of technical issues within the Assistance and Supervision Service for Artisanal Small-Scale Mining (SAEMAPE), Eliane Poto Poto, is staying in the provinces of Haut-Katanga and Lualaba where she speaks with miners on specific issues relating to artisanal mining.
The presence of Eliane Poto Poto is part of the awareness campaign for the improvement of mining cooperatives. Its main mission is to harmonize the various mining cooperatives and evaluate the management of the provincial services of SAEMAPE in Haut-Katanga and Lualaba. A first in this part of the country since his appointment a few months ago.
“I am coming here to discuss with all the technicians, secretaries and inspectors in charge of technical issues in order to harmonize artisanal mining”, declared Eliane Poto Poto on her arrival in Lubumbashi.
At the Lubumbashi stage, the Deputy Director General of SAEMAPE and the Governor of Haut-Katanga, Jacques Kyabula, discussed raising awareness about the granting of technical advice for the installation of mining cooperatives in the province.
“With the provincial authority of Haut-Katanga, we discussed the process of granting technical advice for the installation of cooperatives. The Governor has promised his support for the success of this operation, which will help maximize revenue,” said Eliane Poto Poto.
In the province of Lualaba, Éliane Poto Poto and the Vice-Governor of the province, Fifi Masuka, evaluated the progress as well as the management of SEAMAPE in Lualaba (province of cobalt) where artisanal mining is in vogue. Fifi Masuka promised the retrocession of the remuneration to SEAMAPE.
“We have received assurances from the Governor on compensation costs. The province has the 40% share, it has promised to recover 60% of the revenue that remains mobilized by our services,” said Eliane Poto Poto.
Remember that SAEMAPE is a structure of the Ministry of Mines. It was created by Ministerial Decree No. 17/009 of April 4, 2017. Since its creation, this service has been campaigning for the harmonization of mining cooperatives in the DRC.
