DRC: the mining brigade seizes 450 kg of cassiterite in Shabunda in South Kivu
The agents of the mining brigade and those of the anti-fraud service intercepted three packages of cassiterite of 150 kg each in Penenkusu, chiefdom of Wakabango I in the territory of Shabunda in the province of South Kivu.
According to border services, the defendant who was conveying the cargo said he was not the owner of these minerals. These packages would belong to a legally recognized mining operator.
The Shabunda mining brigade asks everyone to refrain from touching the minerals if they have no title or quality because the state is watching a lot in this area.
According to sources from the Ministry of Mines, the Democratic Republic of Congo exported 6,455.08 tonnes of cassiterite for a value of 48.97 million USD in the first half of 2019.
These exports come from the following provinces: Haut-Katanga for 2,866.73 tonnes with a value of 21,340,899.00 USD; Maniema for 1,297.00 tonnes valued at USD 9,742,615.00; North Kivu for 919.57 tonnes worth 7,458,983.00 USD and South Kivu for 1,371.78 tonnes worth 10,428,356.00 USD.
In connection with the illegal exploitation of minerals in the Democratic Republic of Congo, several measures are being taken by the Secretary General of Mines to fight against mining fraud in the country.
