DRC: towards the forfeiture of 16 mining titles across the province of Ituri
Shabani Kimariki, head of the provincial mining division, recently announced the forfeiture of 16 mining titles across Ituri province, during an interview with the press.
He also indicated that among the measures taken by the Mining Cadastre (CAMI) at the end of the work of the States General of the Ministry of Mines, also appears the forfeiture in progress of 10 (ten) other mining titles for non-payment of taxes. or surface duty per square meter and 11 (eleven) others remain in the event of force majeure due to insecurity.
Mr. Shabani Kimariki specified that the mining companies holding these titles will no longer have the right to operate until they are notified of this decision by the Minister of Mines, otherwise, he said, there will be severe penalties against them, in accordance with the mining code.
Two territories namely Irumu and Djugu where some titles were torn from the Mining Company of Kilo-moto (SOKIMO) and from the MGM Company which held 17 (seventeen) titles and which only has 11 (eleven) today ‘hui, are currently affected by this decision.
According to the head of the provincial division of Mines, the objective of this decision is to clean up the sector, in order to discourage mining companies which mismanage their titles, to give space to others who can effectively exploit the titles. and to draw dividends for the benefit of the public treasury.
Recall that in its report published on September 3, the NGO Congolese Association for Access to Justice (ACAJ), reports 30 (thirty) mining companies that exploit minerals illegally in the province of Ituri. .
