DRC: with an estimated production of 75,277.39 tonnes between 2015 and 2019, cassiterite generated revenues of USD 457.6 million
The production of cassiterite in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), for the period between 2015 and 2019, amounts to 75,277.39 tons, informs the directory of statistics of the Mining sector of the DRC, edition 2020.
According to this report from the Ministry of Mines, this production generated revenues of around 457,623,437.96 million US dollars.
Data from the statistics directory show that this production is estimated at 75,277.39 tonnes.
As for their distribution, it is indicated that in 2015, the production of cassiterite amounted to 8,303.59 tons for exports of approximately 7,470.45 tons having generated revenue of 47,802,555.96 million U.S. dollars.
The production of this material will increase during the following year (2016) to settle at 11,824.34 tons which generated revenues estimated at 64,134,822 million USD.
The year 2017 will further widen a positive gap in production by reaching the score of 18,892.89 tonnes of this product. This recorded an increase in revenue to 87,160,087 million US dollars.
In 2018, this mining product will generate revenue of around 110,227,809 million for an estimated production of 16,273.06 tons.
Compared to the year 2017 when the production of 18,892.89 tonnes was recorded, the year 2018 will record a drop in production but on the other hand the revenue related to the export of this product will increase.
The best year of production of these mineral substances will be the year 2019 when the country will record a production of 20,983.51 tons for revenues of around 157,298,164 million US dollars.
According to data from the Ministry of Mines, in the first half of 2020, the DRC exported 14,333.49 tonnes of cassiterite in the first half of 2020 for a total value of 101,015,488 million, including 4,869.49 tonnes for a value of 28,228,762 million US dollars of cassiterite from artisanal mining and 9,464.27 tons for a value of 72,786,726 million USD from the industrial sector.
About 50% of cassiterite exports from artisanal mining come from the former province of Katanga and the rest from other provinces at a rate of 7% for North Kivu, 17% for South Kivu and 26% for Maniema.
According to the commentary of this document, the soil and subsoil of the Democratic Republic of Congo are full of mineral substances known in the world, ten of which are really highlighted. These are mainly diamond, copper, cobalt, gold, manganese, zinc, cassiterite, colombo-tantalite (coltan), wolframite,
niobium, and germanium.
The exploitation of these substances is ensured by public, private or mixed mining companies in
industrial, semi-industrial production and by artisanal miners.
Despite several difficulties it is experiencing, mining in the DRC still remains the spearhead of the national economy by the height of its contribution to the GDP.
Exports of mining products represent a large share of the total value of exports from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
