DRC: “Wolframite” production and exports generated USD 10.9 million between 2015 and 2019 

The statistical yearbook of the Democratic Republic of Congo (2020 edition) informed that between 2015 and 2019, the country produced only 1,243.02 million tons of Wolframite.

During the period under review, exports of this raw material to international markets amounted to 929.47 tons in four (4) years, note the data provided by the Ministry of Mines.

The two coupled operations i.e. production and export of Wolframite generated the estimated revenue of US$10,938,746 million.

Evolution of various operations carried out between 2015 and 2019

The year 2015 saw a production of 106.36 tonnes of Wolframite in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

During this period, only 28.14 tons will be exported to the international market with a value of 302,327 USD.

An increase in production will be reported the following year in 2016. Production during this period will be 153.88 tonnes, an increase of more than 47 tonnes compared to 2015. Exports of this ore will also increase to to settle at 90.27 tonnes per year, for revenues amounting to 769,349 USD.

This statistical instrument of the DRC indicates that for the year 2017 the production of Wolframite stood at 251.69 tons and exports were calculated at 197.31 tons for revenues estimated at 1,896,786 million US dollars.

A good evolution of production will still be observed during the year 2018 which recorded revenues worth 3,110,847 million US dollars with a production of 310.34 tons, for explanations valued at 208 tons.

For the year 2019, which marks the end of this study of the statistical directory, a production of around 420 tonnes is reported with exports estimated at 405.75 tonnes.

The revenue generated will also experience a crossover to stand at 5,031,437 million USD.

It should be noted that Wolframite is mainly produced in the province of North Kivu. It is an essentially artisanal exploitation.
