DRC: workshop on the impact of the valuation rate of commercial mining products on the repatriation of export earnings

The Minister of Mines, Antoinette N’samba Kalambayi, gave the go, on Monday in Kinshasa, of the workshop on the impact of the rate of valuation of commercial mining products on the repatriation of export earnings, in this case cobalt hydroxide. These two-day meetings give participants the opportunity to reflect on the different valuation rates of said mining products and their impact on the repatriation of export earnings, according to a dispatch from the Communication Unit of the Ministry of Mines.

“As many know, the soil and subsoil of the Democratic Republic of Congo is full of immense and diverse mining potential. Among the mineral substances exploited in the DRC, it is necessary to pinpoint cobalt, for which the DRC has, to date, more than 60% of the world reserve. It alone contributes more than 70% of global mining production, ”said Antoinette N’Samba Kalambayi, in her speech at the opening of this workshop.

The vision of the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, she said, is to see all the partners involved in mining projects to benefit in a fair and equitable manner from the dividends and spinoffs resulting from mining. The objective is to put an end to this paradox according to which the DRC, a potentially rich country, but has a population living in poverty.

The Coordinator of the CTCPM (Technical Coordination and Mining Planning Unit), Mr Mabolia, welcomed the partnership of his structure with Akili Consulting for the organization of this workshop with a view to counting on the determination of the indicative selling price of cobalt hydroxide. “The present meeting comes within the framework of the improvement of the understanding of the rate of valorization of mining products, case of the hydroxide of cobalt” he said.

For his part, Richard Mpongo Ludiongo, Managing Director of Akili Consulting Sarl, recalled that its structure focuses on the management of operational and regulatory risks in the import – export activity of minerals.

“Akili Consulting SARL is a firm, which has existed for more than four years, today. There is a risk, which relates to non-compliance with import-export activities and especially in mines. As we know, the miners are also the big importers and exporter, which contribute enormously in the mining activity. The DRC produces goods, mining products, which go abroad and, in return, the external economy will supply the local economy with foreign currency, ”he declared.

Cobalt hydroxide is a chemical compound with the formula Co (OH) 2. It comes in the form of a pinkish-red powder, the most stable, or in the form of a blue-green powder, less stable. It crystallizes with the same structure as brucite or cadmium iodide. It is used as a drying additive for paints, varnishes and inks, in the preparation of other cobalt compounds, as a catalyst, in the manufacture of battery electrodes and in lactic acid fermentation in industry.

AKILI CONSULTING Sarl is a company specializing in the management of Operational and Regulatory Risks related to the Import-Export activity. The firm has developed solutions ranging from the creation of its clients in the Single Window for Foreign Trade (GUCE) platform to the monitoring of reimbursements of expenses provisioned for the control of goods before shipment, through the management of related costs. to the subscription, modification or extension of licenses. Added to this is the management of export operations such as monitoring repatriation, advice and assistance during the various control missions of the Central Bank of Congo.
