DRC & Zambia join to fight against smuggling and extend service hours at the Kasumbalesa border
The work to assess the bilateral trade agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia was completed this Friday in Ndola. For two days, from Thursday October 15 to Friday October 16, 2020, the delegations of two countries agreed to jointly fight against customs smuggling and extend service services at the Kasumbalesa border post.
“That the DRC accelerate the ratification of the bilateral agreement signed in Lusaka on August 6, 2015, and that in the meantime, the two countries undertake to use good practices in international trade, that the two customs administrations are undertake to jointly fight against smuggling at the Kasumbalesa border post, that our two countries agree to extend the hours of service at the Kasumbalesa border post, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. no later than December 31, 2020 “underlines the joint statement read in end of work this Friday.
The same statement clarified that the Republic of Zambia has pledged to demolish the illegal warehouses at the Kasumbalesa border. The two countries must also commit to accelerate the implementation of the memorandum of understanding on corn, extended to 13 additional products.
The Congolese delegation was led by Jean Lucien Busa, Minister of Foreign Trade. he was accompanied by the governor of Haut-Katanga, Jacques Kyabula Katwe as well as Congolese experts.
