DRC’s Deputy Minister of Mines Collaborates with ADEX Platform AG and CEEC to Boost Local Diamond Processing
The Congolese Deputy Minister of Mines, Godard Motemona, hosted a delegation from ADEX Platform AG and the Center for Expertise, Evaluation, and Certification of Precious and Semi-Precious Mineral Substances (CEEC) this last.
The meeting centered on the November 2023 agreement between ADEX and CEEC, focusing on establishing a local diamond-cutting unit for diamonds produced in the DRC before export.
The ministry disclosed on January 10 that local authorities would provide support for the collaborative effort between ADEX and CEEC.
The agreement aims to create a joint company, and a roadmap for the project’s implementation will be developed in coordination with ministry officials.
If successful, this initiative will mark a significant milestone in the local transformation of mining production, particularly in the Congolese diamond sector.
Freddy Mwamba, CEO of CEEC, highlighted the strategic importance of this project in line with the government’s broader strategy for local transformation.
The delegation included Teit Ritzau, founder and CEO of ADEX Platform AG, Swiss Ambassador to the DRC Chasper Sarott, and Kalemba Kashama Dav, the president of the CEEC Board of Directors.
As the world’s fourth-largest diamond producer by volume, the DRC predominantly focuses on industrial diamond production. However, this partnership opens new possibilities for the development of gem-quality precious stones through local cutting and polishing workshops.
