FEC challenges ARSP’s recommended selection of subcontractors for Tenke Fungurume Mining
Members of the Federation of Congolese Companies (FEC) Lualaba examined, Thursday April 11, in Kolwezi, the list of subcontracting companies with majority Congolese capital recommended for the execution of large contracts within Tenke Fungurume Mining (TFM ). This list was produced by the Regulatory Authority for Subcontracting in the Private Sector (ARSP).
The members of the FEC Lualaba, already in the minority on the revealed list, wish to understand the criteria used by the ARSP to recommend these 25 companies.
After analyzing the frustrations of its members, the FEC Lualaba considers this list discriminatory, especially because the company Tenke Fungurume Mining exploits minerals in this region of the country.
According to the head of this chamber of commerce and the employers’ union, 80% of the companies selected are not registered with the FEC Lualaba.
The provincial president of the FEC, Germain Pungwe, plans to submit a memorandum to the national office of the ARSP to request an improvement in this situation.
As a reminder, a memorandum of understanding aimed at facilitating access for eligible companies to markets, while respecting the conditions required for the conclusion of subcontracting contracts, was recently signed between the ARSP, the Ministry of Mines and the FEC.
