Glencore CEO Meets President Tshisekedi to Deepen Commitment to the DRC and Its People
Glencore Group CEO Gary Nagle held discussions with President Félix Tshisekedi and Prime Minister Judith Suminwa in Kinshasa on Tuesday, December 10.
In a press release issued after the meeting, Glencore highlighted its intention to deepen its engagement with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and its citizens, especially in communities hosting its operations at Mutanda Mining (MUMI) and Kamoto Copper Company (KCC).
Gary Nagle was accompanied by senior Glencore executives, including Anne Edwards, Head of Corporate Affairs; Marie-Chantal Kaninda, Chair of Glencore DRC; and Mark Davis, Managing Director of Glencore Copper Africa.
Since entering the DRC in 2007, Glencore has created over 17,000 direct and subcontracted jobs. In 2023 alone, the company contributed $923 million in taxes, royalties, and other obligations to the DRC government through its Kamoto Copper Company SA (KCC) and Mutanda Mining SARL (MUMI) operations. The Congolese government maintains a 5% stake in MUMI. Both facilities are situated in Kolwezi, Lualaba Province.
To date, Glencore has invested over $8 billion in the DRC and allocated more than $100 million to social development initiatives through its corporate social responsibility projects, emphasizing its long-term commitment to the country.
