Governor of Haut-Uele Reinforces Transparency in DRC’ Mining Sector
On Wednesday, the Governor of Haut-Uele province, Jean Bakomito, reaffirmed his commitment to enforcing order and transparency in the region’s mining sector.
During a meeting with mining operators, alongside key state services such as the Mines Division and SAEMAPE, Bakomito emphasized the importance of adhering to legal standards and eliminating irresponsible practices at mining sites.
The meeting, held in the multipurpose room of the Governor’s official residence in Isiro, focused on assessing the current state of the mining sector and outlining strategies for the sustainable development of the province.
The Governor called on mining operators to contribute actively to regional development, particularly by supporting other crucial sectors like agriculture.
“Identification efforts will continue to determine who is operating legally and who is not,” Bakomito stated, underscoring the necessity for all operators to register formally to ensure the traceability of extracted minerals.
Bakomito also announced the implementation of strict measures against illegal operators, in line with the current Mining Code. These measures aim to ensure that Haut-Uele’s gold resources benefit the Republic and its citizens.
