Govt of DRC Advances SDG Acceleration Roadmap

In a pivotal session during the 3rd Council of Ministers meeting on Friday, June 28, 2024, Guylain Nyembo, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Planning and Development Aid Coordination, detailed efforts to finalize the roadmap for accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Led by the Congolese Sustainable Development Observatory, the initiative aims to address bottlenecks hindering SDG implementation effectively and sustainably.

Nyembo emphasized that the roadmap targets specific interventions across six key axes to expedite progress towards achieving the SDGs by 2030.

The plan, already underway with some measures implemented, underscores the government’s commitment to meeting global development targets.

Highlighting the upcoming National Forum on Sustainable Development Goals, Nyembo outlined its role in fostering national ownership and discussing financing mechanisms, monitoring, and evaluation. Scheduled from August 21 to 23, 2024, the forum will convene sectoral experts, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and Technical and Financial Partners (PTFs) for two days of technical sessions followed by adoption of the roadmap.

The SDGs, comprising 17 goals and 169 targets under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, aim to address global challenges while integrating economic, social, and environmental dimensions.

Each nation customizes its approach based on its unique circumstances, capacities, and development levels.
