Group of US Senators Calls for Immediate Public Cancellation of License Granted to Dan Gertler by US Treasury
A group of US senators are asking Janet Yellen, the US Secretary of the Treasury to open an investigation into the reasons for which the one-year license allowing Dan Gertler to transact in dollars, was granted to him.
In a letter to Janet Yellen on February 1, 2021, this group of US Senators also urges the US Treasury to immediately and publicly rescind the license granted to Dan Gertler which they believe violates the spirit and letter of the Magnitsky law.
“We could not agree with this statement, and urge you to open an investigation into the reasons for which the Treasury issued the license and to hold accountable any person who would have committed wrongdoings in connection with the effort leading to the issuance of the license. We also urge you to immediately and publicly revoke the license, making it clear to Gertler and others sanctioned that the Biden administration will respect the spirit and letter of the Magnitsky Law ” , indicates the letter of the American Senators.
