HH COMMISSIONS MANGANESE MINE IN ZAMBIA
President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has commissioned the Luongo Manganese Mine in Chipili District of Luapula Province.
Luongo Manganese Mine has over 40 million tonnes of ore and is projected to last for 20 years.
The mine has been developed by Mineral Geologist SIXTUS MULENGA through his exploration company MUSAMU Resources.
Speaking when he commissioned the mine, President HICHILEMA said the development of Luongo Manganese Mine is a milestone as it has shown that Zambians can set up and run mines in the country.
President HICHILEMA said government will support the mine and ensure that it creates more jobs to benefit the locals.
The President said suppliers and contractors will benefit from the mine as it will be adding value to the manganese to produce chemical manganese for car batteries.
And Musamu Resources Executive Chairman SIXTUS MULENGA said the mine will be producing chemical manganese which is an ingredient in the manufacturing of car batteries.
Dr. MULENGA said the company will invest 20 million dollars to reach full production capacity of one million tonnes of manganese annually.
He said Luongo Manganese Mine has already employed 250 local workers and will boost the numbers to one thousand when the company reaches full production in five years time.
Meanwhile, Mines and Minerals Development Minister PAUL KABUSWE said the coming of President HICHILEMA has unlocked the potential of the private sector.
