Ivanhoe Mines files an updated technical report for Kamoa-Kakula copper project | DRC
Ivanhoe Mines today announced from Vancouver, Canada that the company has filed an updated National Instrument 43-101 (NI 43-101) technical report covering the Kamoa-Kakula 2020 Integrated Development Plan (Kamoa- Kakula IDP20), indicates a press release consulted by DESKECO.
This updated NI 43-101 technical report includes the independent definitive feasibility study for the development of the Kakula copper mine; with an updated pre-feasibility study that includes ore mined from the nearby Kansoko copper mine in addition to ore mined from Kakula; and an updated and expanded preliminary economic assessment of the comprehensive development plan for all copper discoveries made to date at the Kamoa-Kakula project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Note that the Kamoa-Kakula copper project is a joint venture between Ivanhoe Mines, Zijin Mining Group, Crystal River Global Limited and the government of the DRC. All figures in the updated NI 43-101 technical report are at 100%, unless otherwise noted, the release said.
It should be noted that the updated NI 43-101 Technical Report has been independently prepared on a 100% basis by OreWin Pty Ltd. Adelaide, Australia; China Nerin Engineering Co., Ltd., of Jiangxi, China; DRA Global of Johannesburg, South Africa; Epoch Resources of Johannesburg, South Africa; Golder Associates Africa of Midrand, South Africa; KGHM Cuprum R&D Center Ltd. from Wroclaw, Poland; Outotec Oyj from Helsinki, Finland; Paterson and Cooke from Cape Town, South Africa; Stantec Consulting International LLC of Phoenix, USA; SRK Consulting Inc. of Johannesburg, South Africa; and Wood plc of Reno, United States.
The Kamoa-Kakula copper project has been independently ranked as the world’s largest undeveloped high-grade copper discovery by international mining consultant Wood Mackenzie. This is a very large, stratiform, near-surface, flat copper deposit with adjacent potential exploration areas in the Central African Copper Belt, approximately 25 kilometers west of the city of Kolwezi and about 270 kilometers west of the provincial capital of Lubumbashi.
Initial production at the Kakula Mine Processing Plant is scheduled for July 2021. Kakula is expected to be the world’s leading highest grade copper mine, with an initial mining rate of 3.8 million tonnes per year (Mtpa) at an estimated average feed grade of over 6.0% copper during the first five years of operation. Kakula is the first of multiple planned high-grade mining areas on the 400 square kilometer Kamoa-Kakula mining permit.
