Kamoto Copper Company reports progress of local entrepreneurship program

Kamoto Copper Company SA recently participated in the LINC conference in Kolwezi, Lualaba Province, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The company presented its progress in supporting local businesses through the Local Entrepreneurship Development (EDP) program.

The program aims to support Congolese entrepreneurs and has increased the proportion of spending with DRC-based suppliers from 25% in 2020 to 49% in 2022. Currently, the program has 220 projects underway, which include agricultural cooperatives, construction and transport companies, among others. KCC SA’s business development program has been designed to comply with Glencore compliance standards and is directed towards small businesses with at least 51% Congolese ownership.

Elgar Mugisho, Superintendent of Local Business Development Program at KCC SA, stated that they are committed to strengthening the local community and believe that business development is essential in creating a prosperous middle class in the DRC.

The LINC conference is an annual event that brings together local industry and service providers to share best practices and key learnings for fostering a thriving mining environment in the DRC.

Kamoto Copper Company SA is a responsible mining company in the DRC, jointly owned by Glencore (75%) and Gécamines (25%), with a workforce of 6,144 employees and 5,416 contractors.
