LAND-LINKED ZAMBIA CONFERENCE LINKING SECTORS THROUGH TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS

Land linkages play a critical role in Africa’s economic development by facilitating trade, investment, and regional integration.

As a continent rich in resources but challenged by infrastructure deficits, Africa’s road networks are critical for connecting markets, reducing costs, and improving the movement of goods and people.

Strengthening land linkages has become a key driver for road infrastructure growth, shaping the continent’s future development.

Chimwemwe Nyirenda, the Co-Founder and CEO of Africast Zambia Limited, producers of the premier Land-Linked Zambia Conference believes that through a multi- sectorial approach, the Land-Linked conference will engage with business industries to drive the growth agenda in the Transport and Logistics space within the African continent.

By working with key industries, the agenda of creating SMART Corridors in Africa will be actualised within the shortest period and register real growth in this realm. This growth will be attained by brining together key economic drivers as indicated.

Transport & Infrastructure Development

Africa MUST invest in roads, railways, and border facilities to enhance connectivity. And improve multimodal transport networks integrating. This will be done by developing SMART logistics hubs and dry ports to facilitate cargo movement.

Trade & Industry

Africa MUST strengthen regional trade agreements to reduce barriers and promote manufacturing and value addition near transport corridors. This can also be actualised by the creation of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) along major trade routes.

Energy & Mining

Africa MUST invest in energy infrastructure to support industries along trade corridors and develop green logistics hubs powered by renewable energy. This will ensure efficient transportation of minerals and raw materials.

 Agriculture & Agribusiness

Africa MUST improve transport networks for moving agricultural produce efficiently by developing SMART agro-processing hubs near major transport corridors and strengthen cold chain logistics for perishable goods.

Finance & Investment

Africa MUST mobilise public-private partnerships (PPPs) for infrastructure projects and expand access to trade financing for businesses using land transport. Africa must further support investment in logistics startups and transport innovation.

 Governance & Policy

Finally, Africa MUST harmonise transport regulations across African trade blocks and strengthen regional cooperation to remove non-tariff barriers by implementing policies that support sustainable land transport development.

Africa’s land linkages are a catalyst for economic transformation if all sectors work together to build integrated, efficient, and sustainable transport networks.

Cross-sector collaboration, investment, and policy alignment are crucial to achieving this vision. With increased investment, policy alignment, and strategic development, Africa will continue to play an important role in shaping the continent’s future.

Strengthening transport and logistics connectivity is not just an infrastructure goal—it is a key driver for Africa’s economic prosperity.
