Lualaba Governor Cracks Down on Fake Missions to Combat Mining Sector Abuses
Lualaba’s Governor, Fifi Masuka, now mandates that all mission orders for trips to Kolwezi’s mining sites be stamped at her office following reports of abuse by unauthorized missions from Kinshasa.
The provincial government has documented repeated instances where individuals claiming to represent the central government conducted fake missions within mining companies, often engaging in coercive tactics.
In a recent incident, a group of Chinese employees from the GTS company was abducted by imposters posing as government representatives from Kinshasa.
According to Lualaba’s provincial police commissioner, these fake missionaries demanded a fabricated tax from Mr. Wang, the general manager of GTS, overstepping local tax authorities.
“This commission pretended to operate under legitimate authority, approaching Mr. Wang to impose a false tax,” explained Deputy Divisional Commissioner Tariel Kisak as he presented the affected Chinese investors to Governor Masuka.
This new requirement by the provincial government is part of an effort to eliminate misconduct and power abuses within the mining industry, fostering a healthier business environment.
Several individuals involved in these fraudulent activities have already been detained, underscoring the government’s commitment to enforcing the new directive.
