Job description

Job PurposeThe Maintenance Planner is responsible for strategising, scoping, devising, prioritising, initiating, organising, monitoring, planning, controlling, reporting and providing specialist technical direction on engineering maintenance activities across the mining Trackless, Support and ideally the Fixed Assets base with a key focus on operational and IT excellence at Kamoa-Kakula.  
Key ResponsibilitiesCAM Strategic Maintenance Management1.     Develop an asset management strategy that includes:

  •  A strategy for the trackless and support fleet inclusive of but not excluded to;

o   Equipment identification and equipment structureo   Ability to assess and break Equipment; whether it is fixed or Trackless, into an appropriate HBS,o   Be able to provide service and maintenance types, OEM required scheduling frequencies with associations and threshold suppressions to reduce unnecessary works orders at undue times. o   The specification of task lists, with failure analysis decision tree reporting for feedback to provide RCA. Once PM and ad-hoc breakdown emergency orders have been stabilised, the introduction at a date in the future of Predictive as well as On Condition based maintenance.

  • Setting up OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency), reliability measurement reporting (Mean Time to Failure {MTTF}, Mean time between Failures {MTBF}, Mean time to Repair {MTTR}) and other maintenance related KPIs to measure the trackless, support and Fixed plants ability to perform (availability, utilisation, reliability reports);
  • Development of a Life cycle model that includes component replacement forecasting for the trackless and support fleets as well as fixed plant (machine and component life expectancy and define life stage interventions i.e. rebuilds);
  • Development of a Rotable component replacement and repair policy that will embrace the Supply Chain Optimisation policies

2.     Understands the Mining ratios for both build and also production planning for strategic sourcing of trackless and support fleets to support mining requirements.3.     Build Global as well as site based RCA and Lost Production reporting based on the captured Failure and transactional detail for strategic management scrutiny4.     Use captured data to build Global as well as site based Planning mechanics for the anticipated works orders over a time horizon given fixed works space to execute works orders CAM System Use and Support Skills1.     Prior successful use of CAM/CMMS systems, preferably in a Greenfields environment2.     Special preference to users that are familiar with the installed JDE ERP system inclusive of the Capital Asset Maintenance (CAM) module which integrates to all current financial and supply chain modules in use;3.     Proven strategic and operational IT CAM based maintenance and management skills4.     Identify key WO feedback data sets that will be used in feedback capture and ensure business processes support the capture of this data (time work started, completed, when deferred, what components were used, what failures were assessed and other)5.     Be responsible for the training of future users on the use of the JDE system based on the data captured and the business processes identified Safety Requirements1.     Establishing a base line risk assessment which identifies

  • The major hazards and associated risks relating to trackless mining activities
  • The critical tasks and safe behaviours of operators and maintenance personnel

2.     The formulation of Safe work procedures and standards to perform work3.     The implementation of a Health and Safety Monitoring program for trackless mining activities Procurement and Logistics1.     Identify service and critical spares as well as major components to be kept in stock on mine, to service the surface and underground assets;2.     Provide constant input and update to the procurement department on stock levels of spares, fast and slow movers, maintenance and breakdown spares allocation, and compilation service kits;3.     Consider availability of spares, lead times and criticality and use this information to determine strategic stock levels as well as stock validation procedures. InfrastructureSet up infrastructure to support the trackless fleet that includes but not limited to:1.     Workshops for surface and underground (Cranes and ramps)2.     Optimal servicing of the heavy duty trackless items such that they do not need to be returned to surface for services3.     Refuelling and lubrication requirements and control of these4.     Wash bays with drains and silt traps5.     Surface and underground stores6.     Waste management ( Domestic, scrap, steel and hydrocarbons)7.     Consider traffic management in the workshops, traveling and tramming ways for the fleet Cost1.     Categorise and itemize cost elements associated with the trackless as well as support mining activities. (Fuels and lubes, tires, repairable parts or comp, major components, electrical parts, pumps and valves, drilling consumables etc.);2.     Benchmark and trend unit cost of itemized cost elements against the OEM predictive operating cost model;3.     Identify continuous improvement opportunities and implement those in order to drive down unit costs;4.     Allocate cost elements to assets to establish asset life cycle cost;5.     Forecast and cash flow fleet cost and anticipated budget for planned and unplanned maintenance, component replacements and rebuilds. Controls1.     Measure actual performance against pre-determined and approved objectives on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.2.     Report on performance and performance gap interventions and progress on interventions on a weekly and monthly basis.3.     Have alignment meetings with Mining and Engineering staff on a regular basis to align service delivery where and when required.4.     Adapt objectives together with the Senior Engineering Manager and Head of Mining whenever required. Staff Resourcing and Management

  1. Identify staff skills gaps and what should be done to address skills gaps.
  2. Discuss needs in terms of skills gaps with Engineering Engineer and Snr. HR Manager and Human Resource Development Manager.
  3. Evaluate and ensure skills transfer implementation on continuous basis.
  4. Measure Expatriate staff on actual skills transfer to local staff members.
  5. Ensure a good relationships and good team spirit amongst staff.
  6. Ensure clear and explicit communication aligned with approved strategies, Company rules and controls.
  7. Treat all staff in an objective, fair and consistent way.
  8. Support, encourage and develop staff as far as possible.
  9. Take responsibility for management of behavior of own staff and ask Human Resources for support when required.

Minimum requirements

  • Relevant Engineering Diploma /degree / tradecraft certification (Mechanical or Electrical)
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer will be advantageous.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in a trackless and supporting mining fleet environments in the role of either Snr Maintenance Planner, Manager or Engineer

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior operational experience with Trackless and support fleet management in a computerised environment
  • Post Graduate qualification in Engineering or professional registrations

Skills

  • A theoretical and practical operational understanding of trackless and support mining environment obtained via formal qualifications and sufficient practical experience.
  • A prior background and experience in preparing data for use in the IT system, as well as the understanding of implementing a CAM system 

Ideal Skills

  • Advanced knowledge and extensive experience of trackless mining environment from an international perspective obtained via advanced formal qualifications and practical experience in various mines in different countries.
  • A prior background in using IT transactional data and using this data to prepare OEE, KPI, Reliability Measures and other reporting measuring for management information and decision making
  • A prior background in implementing a control room system
