Ming’omba Mine Launches Scholarships to Foster AI Talent in Zambia

The newly inaugurated Ming’omba Mine in Chililabombwe, owned by KoBold Metals, is offering ten scholarships in data science and exploration geography for Zambian students.

In collaboration with Stanford University, Copperbelt University, and the University of Zambia (UNZA), KoBold Metals has developed this new program as part of its initiative to integrate artificial intelligence into mineral exploration.

KoBold Metals aims to combine advanced exploration technologies with Zambian expertise to discover world-class mineral deposits.

The Ming’omba site has already revealed substantial copper reserves, touted as the largest copper find in Zambia in over a century.

With mining operations projected to begin in the early 2030s, Ming’omba Mine is expected to produce high-quality copper and create thousands of jobs.

Felix Mutati, Minister of Technology and Science, recently visited the mine and praised its investment levels and integration of AI technologies.

He stated, “As a Ministry preparing the nation for a future rich in AI technologies, we are eager to collaborate with partners like Ming’omba Mine to help Zambians fully embrace AI.”
