Mining production unaffected by the COVID-19, reassures the Minister of Mines | DRC
During the economic meeting held on Tuesday July 28, 2020, the Prime Minister, Sylvestre Ilunga Ilunkamba, the Minister of Mines, Willy Kitobo, revealed that “mining production has not been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic “. Moreover, the prices of metals are doing well on the international market.
“In the mining sector, the responsible Minister reassured the members of the Economic Conjuncture Committee that mining production was not affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and metal prices are doing well on the international market . The Ilunkamba Government congratulates and encourages mining operators to produce more. “, Notes the press release of the economic situation meeting disseminated by the Prime Minister.
The members of the Economic Conjuncture Committee also examined the state of the economy and the issue of exemptions and compensations in customs clearance operations.
Regarding the conjuncture note presented by the VPM, Minister of Planning, it revealed a slowdown in the depreciation of the Congolese franc against the foreign currency, thanks to the measures taken by the Government and the Central Bank of Congo, declared Jean-Baudouin Mayo, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Budget in his report of this working session.
However, the Conjuncture Committee has unfortunately noted expectations in the market. Some economic operators who have benefited from the tax suspension as part of the decisions taken by the central government to protect the national economy from the harmful effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, are not playing fair because the prices of goods increase in the market, blasted the VPM Mayo.
Therefore, the government invites these economic operators “in the high sense of patriotism”, and launches the same appeal to all political, social and other players, to look in the same direction to develop the country.
Regarding exemptions and compensation in customs clearance operations, this file will be studied in depth by the VPM in charge of the Plan, to give a detailed general situation on this issue, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
In addition, the Conjuncture Committee invited the Congolese not to panic, because “the instability of the exchange rate also depends for a greater deal on the uncertainty that certain enemies of the nation want to create in the socio-economic environment, political and economic policies of the country ”.
