Mopani Copper Mines awarded for ethical procurement practice
Mopani Copper Mines has recently achieved the prestigious Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) Corporate Ethics Kite Mark, which sets the standard for Africa’s mining sector.
This achievement demonstrates the company’s commitment to investing in ethical practices in its procurement and supply chain activities.
As part of Zambia’s efforts to increase copper mining output to 3 Mt a year by 2032, Mopani Copper Mines is playing a crucial role in meeting this target, which is high on President Hakainde Hichilema’s agenda since coming to power in August 2021.
To become a world-class operation, Mopani Copper Mines has aligned its 71 supply chain employees with the UK-based global professional body, CIPS, which represents the procurement and supply chain profession. The company has also become a CIPS member, and the CIPS Corporate Ethics Kite Mark recognizes its outstanding efforts.
This accolade publicly reinforces Mopani Copper Mines’ commitment to ethical sourcing and supplier management. It also signals to suppliers, customers, potential employees, and other stakeholders that they are dealing with an entity that has adopted ethical values in the way in which they source and manage suppliers and that they have trained staff in ethical sourcing and supplier management.
“We are grateful for the assistance given by CIPS in our quest to become world-class, and the award of the Corporate Ethical and Procurement certificate of achievement is a testament to the partnership and continuing support,” says Gershom Tanga, the delighted Mopani Copper Mines Supply Chain Manager.
Mopani Copper Mines aims to have all 71 supply chain professionals achieve the Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS) status.
This achievement signals to other professionals and employers of procurement proficiency, providing a significant career advantage that enables members to increase their earning potential.
Craig O’Flaherty, Head of CIPS for Business, CIPS Africa, says that the “CIPS Corporate Ethics Kite Mark reinforces Mopani Copper Mines’ commitment to ethical sourcing and supply chain management and is a shining example to other organizations in Zambia to do the same.” The company’s efforts are setting the standard for the African mining sector, and other organizations should follow in their footsteps.
